Portulaca oleracea
A one-year-old plant, 15-30 cm tall with branching, creeping stems. The edible parts are fleshy leaves and stem tips. They are prepared similarly to spinach, asparagus, or cauliflower. They can be pickled for winter and are excellent for meat dishes. They have antibacterial properties and are also recommended for people with diabetes. Seeds are sown in the ground in May, either broadcast or in rows 25-30 cm apart. They are not covered with soil, only pressed down. Germination occurs after about 10 days at a temperature of around 20 degrees Celsius. The first leaves can be harvested after a month. The harvest of purslane is 2-3 times during the growing season.
